The Ötscher is one of the most prominent peaks in Lower Austria, with an isolation of more than 20 km.

The cloud and temperature inversion happen very often in Austria between October and March. Normally the temperature decreases with an increase in altitude but with an inversion, the air is colder below the clouds.
